Six structures. Copy them.
Every rewrite published on this site is one of six patterns. They are not proprietary and they are not complicated — they are just rarely written down, which is why so few senior records use them.
Structure, worked example, and what it fixes.
The examples use figures from the published sample composite. Your own lines are only ever rewritten from sources you supply.
1. The ownership line
held [what] · decided [what] · which changed [what]
“Owned the P&L for two regions — INR 740 crore across 11 sites — through two budget cycles, holding pricing, capital and headcount authority.”
What it fixes. Replaces a proximity verb. Fixes the most common cause of a record reading one level below the job that was done.
2. The sized claim
[claim] — [number] [unit] across [scope] — over [period]
“Built a 40-person function across two regions over two budget cycles.”
What it fixes. Stops a reader guessing. An unsized claim is read at the smaller end of its range, so the unit is not decoration — it is the claim.
3. The refused alternative
chose [X] rather than [Y], because [constraint]
“Chose to decompose the monolith rather than re-platform it, holding the availability commitment through the transition.”
What it fixes. The single fastest way to read as a decision-maker. Almost no record contains one, and every senior career is full of them.
4. The span-first opening
[function] leader who has run [scale] and [the distinguishing thing]
“Operations leader who has run two regions as a single P&L — INR 740 crore across 11 sites — and merged two operating playbooks into one.”
What it fixes. Positioning carries 36 per cent of the index and lives in the first six lines. This is what goes in them, instead of a skills list.
5. The consequence clause
…, which [changed what], measured by [how]
“…, which took the two regions onto one planning cycle, measured by a single monthly operating review replacing four.”
What it fixes. Turns an activity into evidence. If you cannot finish this clause honestly, the claim is doing less work than it appears to.
6. The consistency check
dates · titles · span · sequence — CV against profile
Four fields, compared side by side, in ten minutes.
What it fixes. Worth more than an hour of rewriting. A contradiction between the two documents is the one flaw a reader cannot stop seeing once they have found it.
The rule that bounds all six. We will not write a claim your record cannot support. Ever. A pattern makes a true claim land at its real size; it cannot make an unsupportable one safe, and applying one to a claim you cannot source will simply move the problem to the interview.
