The record reads one level down. Usually it is grammar.
The most common problem in a senior record is not modesty. It is verbs. Managed, oversaw, responsible for — each describes proximity to a decision rather than ownership of it, and a reader two levels up notices immediately.
Three verbs that cost you a level.
None of them are untrue. All of them place you next to a decision instead of inside it.
Managed
Describes an ongoing state. It answers “what were you near” and never answers “what did you set”. A reader fills the gap with the most common version of that job, which is a smaller one.
Responsible for
The most senior-sounding and the least load-bearing. Accountability without authority reads, correctly, as accountability without authority.
Oversaw
Explicitly places you above the work and outside it. Useful for a governance role. Costly for an operating one, where the question is what you decided.
Name what you held, what you decided, and what changed.
Not louder language. The same career, with the authority stated instead of implied.
“Managed a team of 40 and was responsible for the regional P&L.”
Two claims, neither sized, both describing position rather than decision. A reader cannot tell whether you set the budget or reported against it.
“Built a 40-person function and owned the P&L across two regions — INR 740 crore, 11 sites — holding pricing, capital and headcount authority through two budget cycles.”
Nothing was invented. The span, the authorities and the duration were always true; they were simply not on the page.
Rewrites on this page are illustrative and use the figures from the published sample composite. Your own lines are only ever rewritten from sources you supply.
Why this is not inflation. Every rewrite is bounded by the evidence register — one row per claim, with the source that carries it. A claim without a source stays marked open and stays out of the résumé. Understating a career and overstating one are both failures of accuracy; we are only interested in the accurate version.
Two dimensions, twenty per cent combined.
Both are diagnosed in your Profile Intelligence Audit, and both are fixed in the text rather than by adding anything to your career.
Whether each claim names what you held, decided and changed — or only what you were near.
Scored 60 on the published composite.
Whether the record reads at the level you actually operated at. Records drift downward far more often than up.
