None of these are about being out of work. They are about who is doing the interpreting.
Scope is no longer assumed
Inside a company, “VP Operations” carries a known span. Outside it, the title means whatever the reader has seen it mean elsewhere — and that is usually smaller.
Ambiguity resolves downward
A claim that cannot be sized is read at the smaller end of its range. Not out of scepticism. Because a reader has to pick a number and the safe one is low.
Consistency is checked
Your résumé and your LinkedIn are opened within a minute of each other. A contradiction between them is the one flaw a reader cannot un-see.
The heaviest dimension is the cheapest to fix.
Positioning carries 36 per cent of the Profile Signal Index — more than the next two combined — and it lives in the first six lines a reader sees.
“Senior operations leader with 18 years of experience across manufacturing and supply chain, skilled in process improvement, team leadership and stakeholder management.”
Eighteen years described as a skills list. The reader now has to work out what this person is for, and readers do not do that work — they guess.
“Operations leader who has run two regions as a single P&L — INR 740 crore across 11 sites — and merged two operating playbooks into one.”
Same career, same year. The reader now knows the size of the job you have already held, which is the only thing they were trying to establish.
