Yes, the title says it all. Contrary to
what you may assume or have ben told, July and August are the two best months to
conduct a job search. Confused? Bewildered? Let’s discuss.
On or about the last week of June 70% of
your competition in the job search race will back out of their search as they
think a job search in the summer is a waste of time. Baloney! Hiring doesn’t
come to a halt during extended vacation time. There is still the same amount of
jobs available, but there are fewer job searchers on the hunt. Let’s do the arithmetic
If you are part of the 100% searching for a new job and 70% of your competition drops out of the search, how many are left? Only 30%. Would you consider your chances to be considerably higher if you were fighting against 30% vs 100%? Yes, the search process can be lengthened due to decision makers taking their own vacation but getting yourself acknowledged as a candidate through the main channels (direct mail to a decision maker or executive recruiter or as a result of an advert) can be advantageous to you. I would suggest if you are really serious about your career and securing your next opportunity, that you plan an active job search during these two months instead of taking a break, lounging in your hammock. Is your resume ready and ATS friendly? Is your LinkedIn profile and other social media telling a compelling story about you? If so, snap into job search mode now! Get ready! Get set! Go!
